The Planet Waves Humidipak is the only maintenance free, two-way humidity control scheme for guitar. It mechanically maintains the optimal 45-50% relative humidity level within your instrument case, eliminating the guesswork and potential mess affiliated to refilling a humidifier. Unlike refillable humidifiers, the Humidipak scheme provides true “two-way” purified humidity control by adding and removing moisture on demand. No more manual adjustments based on seasonal changes, geographic locations, temperature, or other factors. The Humidipak Kit comes with 3 Humidipaks and a soft mesh pouch that will not hurt your instrument’s finish. Humidipaks last amidst 2 and 6 months and ought to always be held in a sealed surroundings like a hard-shell case. Once the Humidipaks become firm, discard and replace using the 3 refills that come in the Planet Waves Humidipak Replacement Pack (PW-HPRP-03).

Learn to play the system By DMcCoy You guys gotta learn how to play the system to your advantage. I use these in with my Taylor, and yes they will run out, but I made a water humidifier using a small plastic container(with holes drilled), a sponge, and a velvet bag to go along with the Humidipak. Remember the humidipaks take up excess humidity as will as release it. The humidipaks essentially control the humidity by absorbing the excess put out by my homemade sponge humidifier, and when the sponge dries up I have the humidipaks there as a backup. Mine have lasted for well over a year this way.
I have also recharged these by placing the humidipaks in an unsealed plastic bag and then placing that in a sealed plastic bag along with a really damp sponge for a couple of weeks.

Regeneration By WrldTraveler I purchased this system in November 0f 2011. Living in the desert southwest, the packs would only last me about 3-4 weeks at most and I kept my Martin case closed at all times. Obviously, this would lead to a expensive humidification solution. Since this is a 2-way humidification and dehumidification system, I decided to experiment with several methods to regenerate the packs. What worked best for me was to use a small and large “Tupperware type” container. I placed the small container inside the larger container and placed three packs in the space between the small and large container. I then partially filled the small container with distilled water and tightly sealed the large container with its lid (leaving the small container open). I then carefully set it aside so not to spill any water and damage the packs. A sponge could also be used to contain the water. WIthin 3 days the packs had been regenerated and I placed them back in the original zip lock package for later use. I have two set of cartridges and just rotate them between my guitar case and the “regeneration ware”.

Good Product, Expensive Upkeep By G. E. Harris I purchased this product because I did not want to hastle with having a water-based humidifier in an expensive guitar (Breedlove Pro D25/SR Herringbone) nor did I want to monitor the inaccurate readings of a hygrometer. I read some online reviews about the Humidipack System and made the investment. For five weeks of winter, the system has worked well. The action and tone of the guitar has remained identical to what it was in summer months. There are no signs of the top changing in any way due to lack of humidity.
My main concern is longevity of the packs, thus my “3 star” rating. I installed the system on November 10, 2009 and by Christmas, the pack was rock hard, needing replacement. The packaging says the packs will last 2-4 months, but that can’t be so. We’ve had a relatively warm and wet winter where I live and I open the guitar case one average once a day. Even still the pack only lasted 6 weeks. I am moving to Las Vegas this summer and I cannot imagine how quickly the packs will dry out and need costly replacement.
My main complaint is the expense of the system and the false advertisement. The system works, but it is quite pricey to keep up with.
