Decent, but limited BTU simply because it’s electric By Earth Watcher The interior of the gun does indeed get to 1100 degrees, as measured with an industrial quality thermometer. However less than an inch in front of it goes down to 750-900. I found that, not having used a heat gun before, it took longer than I would have liked to heat things up. But with BTUs being a measurement of power, and U.S. household outlets being limited to 15 amps, this is just about as powerful as they get. For that reason, though the (Milwaukee 8988-20 Variable Temperature Heat Gun) was the best rated gun I found, I can’t imagine it would work any faster on your task, and it’s 3x as expensive. I saw online that gas heat guns go up to 100,000+ BTU (e.g. this one: Heat Gun – Propane Model – 125,000 BTU/Hour), i.e. can be 20+ times as powerful, but imagine they may be simply too powerful for many tasks. And it’s 20+ as expensive, too.
