4Michigan beer keeps getting better!
By Scott D. Stephens
Focused entirely on Michigan’s breweries, this work from Ruschmann & Nasiatka is a welcome addition to any beer lover’s library. They describe the various breweries, brewpubs, etc. – the ambiance, beer styles, volume, and more for all the various establishments at the time of writing (2006). They’ve spoken directly to most brew masters which offers insight to the brewing systems used and the philosophies behind each. Armed with this, the visitor to Michigan’s brew scene, will have an excellent preview of what to expect. Additionally, the authors’ offer other, albeit concise, tourist tips for Michigan. Buy it, read it, and visit the Great Lakes State – you won’t regret it!

4Well written, but…
By Steven D. Rogers
This guide is very well written, and I always keep it with me when I’m travelling throughout the state so I always know when I’m near one. It is NOT, however, a catalog of all the breweries/microbreweries in Michigan. There are several that are missing that come to mind, such as Black Lotus Brewing Company in Clawson, Sherwood Brewing Company in Macomb Township, and The Library in Houghton. These places do seem to come and go, so no blame goes to the authors.

Overall, this book is a good buy, and handy to keep if you’re a beer lover and travel in Michigan.

5i love michigan beer!
By Brett Maxwell
The craft beer world is changing very quickly, especially in Michigan, but this book does a great job giving information on all our great breweries in a way that will not too quickly be outdated.
