A recent study brought dread and concern to millions of people using aluminum cookware. It is theorized that using aluminum cookware may trigger Alzheimer’s disease. Take note that we are talking regarding high contents of aluminum to have a substantial effect on the body. As an overview, Alzheimer’s sickness is a degenerative type of illness, and commonly terminal. A person infected with it experiences dementia. He forgets the names of his loved ones and other indispensable memories. It is caused by a lot of interacting components like drug side effects. But more recently, it is also linked with the intake of high amounts of aluminum. And they point to aluminum cookware as the culprit.
For a good deal of years, persons already recognise how aluminum salts may leach from a pan or pot and onto the feed being cooked, exceptionally if it is acidic. This is the very reason why aluminum-lined cookware is strictly prohibited in a lot of countries like France, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Hungary, Brazil and Switzerland.
Although it is still permitted in the US, a heap of of their aluminum cookware is now lined with non-stick coatings. Aside from this, most aluminum cookware is anodized. This means aluminum parts were dipped into a type of hot acid bath, sealing it and altering it is molecular structure.
Aluminum foil leaching is proven to be true. The logic behind this is that aluminum foils are formulated when aluminum passes among pressurized rollers.
Aluminum is the third most plenteous element. It is unavoidable that when we eat, drink or breathe, we perpetually take in little quantities of this element. There is not one thing to worry with regards to because our bodies are adapted to remove it again. Studies disclose that only as little as .001% of aluminum is present in our digestive tracks. Our kidneys likewise without delay excrete the aluminum absorbed by our bodies.
The dilemma now lies in our altering world. With industrialization, pollution and all other natural hazards present in the environment, we are getting more exposed to exuberant amounts of aluminum. In fact, Alzheimer’s is just one of the numerous impairment of normal physiological functions we may get from exuberant absorption of aluminum.
Alzheimer’s is triggered by a heap of factors, not just aluminum. And if aluminum content is the concern, it is found in more outstanding quantities in water supplies. It is accordingly inconclusive to refrain from aluminum cookware to prevent Alzheimer’s.
However, the direct link amid aluminum and Alzheimer’s impairment of normal physiological function is still ongoing various tests to see to it theories. And for much concern, Alzheimer’s is brought when it comes to by a lot of other factors. It is a given that aluminum is one of the most ordinary factor employed in constructing kitchen items. Its lightweight characteristic is perfective for easy manipulation and maneuverability of assorted kitchen tools and utensils.
The primary thing to do not forget is to always be safe in the cooking methods we practice. Because any material, aluminum or otherwise, may be causes of sicknesses if we are not careful. There is practically a sure degree of hazard in any kind of material employed in kitchenware. Copper may rust and contaminate feed also. Other metals like iron are also effortlessly corrosive. So they are genuinely not any dissimilar with aluminum.

Nothing is Perfect By Charlie Jinn My wife and I have spent a lot of money in our life time buying pots and pans. Some even claims “life Time Warranty” and cost triple the price, but nothing last a life time, not even close. When it was time to purchase another set, I did a lot of research (for days). Consumers Report, Amazon.com, etc. Earth Pan received very good reviews over all and it was safe (no PTFEs or PFOAs)- we have young children.
The first few days, everything was fine. We read the instructions twice to make sure we followed everything to the letter.
Cons: 1. Non-stick: It still sticks, and depends on what you are cooking, cleaning up afterwards could still be time consuming. 2. Stainless steel handles gets very hot, so be careful, or get the plastic/rubber handle set. 3. Somehow when you get stains on the outside of the pots or pans, NO WAY of cleaning it off. I have research the internet and tried everything, and the stains are still there. 4. Like many other complaints about this set, yes, the pots are too small for everyday use. I agreed.
Pro: 1. Earth pan is well made and attractive. 2. Price is right.
If oneday the non-stick coating comes off (and they will, like all the other non sticks cookwares we ever own), I don’t have to worry about harmful chemicals getting into our bodies (espically our kid’s).
Update: 11/30/09
These pans are just as bad as the others. It sticks really bad after 3 months. I am so disappointed! Days of research and the “Consumers Report Rating” has not provided me with any satisfactions. Don’t buy this. Really.

I thought at first this was an amazing set of pans By MSB I had a set of stainless steel pans and before that what I consider to be toxic T-Fal type coated pans. So after getting frustrated cooking with holiday company here (hate cooking eggs in stainless steel). I went on amazon to find a new set of eco friendly non toxic pans. These pans arrived the next day. Amazing! They were more than I hoped for. You are not to use cooking spray on nonstick finish (which I had no idea about before), and they are dishwasher safe. The largest pot is wonderful for cooking pasta for my large family of 6. Making eggs is dream in the skillet or fry pan. I could not be more thrilled with this purchase. I had seen them listed here for $114 after I bought them, wish Amazon would refund the difference for you if it’s within 30 days. But regardless this set was well worth the money. They are a good solid set and one you can feel safe using for your family, knowing that no toxic chemicals are leaching into your food as you prepare it.
updated review as of 4/1/10: The fry pans in the set are now useless after 4 months. I called the Earth pan company (Meyer) today and explained them that despite my following their directions for pan use (only olive or peanut oil for taste no non stick cooking spray) and though they say not dishwasher safe when you talk to them, Amazon says “dishwasher safe” and the insert directions in the pans themselves do say dishwasher safe as well the earth pan website. The rep was very nice and I was given a choice to return the pans that are ruined (3) and choose something else as a replacement. But the cost to return is on me though they will ship the new pans to me on them. I was also told this is not a warranty issue and that this is not an issue covered on this set of pans as they do not offer a lifetime warranty as on other sets in their pan lines). I would caution other buyers to be mindful when purchasing as eventually these pans will stick. I followed all directions and yes did put them in the dishwasher as that was indicated to be okay. I’m wondering if folks who have not had issues have just opted to handwash instead. Now I’m thinking of just getting two Faberware Stainless fry pans. The rest of this set has not given me any issue so far. I have put the saucepans in the dishwasher with no ill effects, so not sure why the fry pans have been so effected. Meyer told me it might have been a bad batch.

Finish came off, residue on pans By J. Pryor Purchased two skillets in December and was impressed with their non-stick glidy finish. We stir-fry veggies, meat dishes, fish, fry eggs and bacon….but 4 months later we have the finish coming off in small areas all over the bottom and sides! and residue building up that appears baked into the finish. Beware that if you use much high heat with them that this may cause the problem, but regardless, they did not last any time at all. We have had to replace them with new products. The warranty was good for 30 days – and like most warranties they outlived their return policy. I would not buy any more – because if you can’t heat them to stir fry or fry eggs without these problems, they aren’t worth having!
