Tapas is no longer just found in Spain as it became rather a fad in the UK and now there are tapas restaurants up and down the country. However, having visited a huge number I may safely say that they are not ‘real’ tapas bars they are more like restaurants serving tapas style dishes.

So what is tapas?

Well a tapa is a lid so tapas are lids and a heap of years ago when a local went in to a bar to get a beer or wine they would put a bit of bread on top as a tapa (lid) to stop the flies getting in their drink. Later to make the bread a little more interesting tiny bits of feed were placed on the bread and so tapas was born.

Of course these days it has evolved and is a culinary wonder with a lot of adventurous and conventional dishes.

So as promised here are a great deal of tapas tips.

On a menu you will ordinarily see three prices underneath three dissimilar headings;

Tapa, media racion and racion. These mean a little portion, half a dish and full dish respectively.

We would commend that you order lots of dissimilar tapas portions so you may experience the galore dissimilar flavours from fish to meat from vegetables to rice.

Typical tapas dishes include albondigas (meatballs), croquetas (croquettes), calamari (squid rings), boquerones (pickled anchovies), patas bravas (spicy potatoes), gambas pil pil (spicy garlic prawns) and chorizo (spicy Spanish sausage).

You will detect that a lot of established tapas bars are called bodegas and have barrels outside that are converted into tables.

If you occur to be on holiday on the Costa del Sol there are a number of tapas bars to choose from like the widely known and esteemed Valencia Tapas bars in Marbella. However, even in huge holiday resorts like Club La Costa you will find that the bars and cafes likewise have a tapas menu so guests may receive pleasure from a established Spanish style lunch.

5Great dish!
By N. Mason
I have not had any problems with this dish and have had it for over 2 yrs now. I am able to use the glass cover on a couple of my stainless steel frying pans which is great too. This casserole dish is the perfect size and I love having a nice lid.

5Pyrex Caserole Dishes – Wow!
By Laura M. Bott
I love these dishes! They are good for mixing, cooking in the stove, microwave, or conventional ovens, freezing, dishwasher safe, and hard to chip and break! My Mom had one of these caserole dishes, and I finally broke it last holiday season, over half a century of use! Buy everything in pyrex that you can, it’s definitely worth your money!
